Let me introduce myself...
My name is Ms. Gilbart and I am the Grade 5/6 teacher at Daerwood School. I have been teaching since 2008 and have taught in Vancouver, London, and Thailand.
I have built this website as a means of communication between students, parents and myself. I will be building in each subject area so that parents and students can look further into the topics we are covering in each area. I have built onto previous information for grade 7, if students would like to preview topics for next year!

*Consequences for not following the rules will be decided upon between the student, myself, and administration if necessary.

Homework and Absences
Students will be given weekly math fact fluency (times table, etc) worksheets that are due by the following Friday. Students have a challenging "Problem of the Week", which will earn them a prize if they answer it correctly. Students are also expected to do at least 15 minutes of daily reading at home.
Any larger projects (Science Unit project, design project, writing project, TUSC presentation, etc) will be given class time to complete. Students will only need to take it home if they have not completed it during class. I expect students to complete these during the class time given, but the students do have the option of working on them at home.
If students are absent...
Students are responsible for getting and completing any missed work. Previous work will be put into the absent bins at the side of the classroom and it is the student's responsibility to find missing work and complete it. Often class lessons will be hands-on or oral activities, in which absence may negatively affect their mark.
Students needing extra time...
I get it. Life is busy. If you need extra time for a project or unit assessment, please make sure you come to discuss it with me before it is due. Students asking for extra time on the due date or afterwards are not guaranteed an extension and may have to submit/perform as it is.
